Wonderful Wetlands

Learn about the wonders of wetlands in this hands-on activity at Sylvan Prairie Park with the Division of Wildlife. Following a discussion about the importance of wetlands and the significance of the H2Ohio initiative, participants will conduct water quality testing and then search for aquatic macroinvertebrates – great indicators of healthy waters – using dip nets. Identification keys and magnifying lenses will be used to identify each creature we locate. We are likely to find nymphs for dragonflies and damselflies, larvae for mayflies and stoneflies, and maybe even some tadpoles, too! After getting your hands dirty in a wetland, you are sure to earn a respect for this underappreciated habitat!
