provide endless opportunities for us to explore, discover, play and learn. Outdoor Sylvania Community Parks, also known as Outdoor Sylvania, is here to help residents enjoy those opportunities.

Outdoor Sylvania, serves Sylvania, Ohio, and the surrounding communities with five beautiful parks, fun, public educational activities, and three facilities for event rental. Explore our parks or attend an event, and you’re sure to see why we say, “you’re sure to see how we are fulfilling our vision of enriching the community by creating spaces for
celebrating, contemplating, and engaging with nature and each other.”

From bike trails and boat rentals to swimming at the beach, Outdoor Sylvania’s five parks offer something for nearly everyone. Go beyond the ordinary and hunt for authentic fossils, or enjoy a relaxing day at one of the best fishing spots in Ohio. It’s all here, ready for you to discover.

A Park for Everyone in The Sylvania School District

FOSSIL PARK

5705 Centennial Road

Dig for Devonian Era fossils in the fossil pit at Fossil Park! With its portion of the Quarry Ridge Bike Trail, Fossil Park connects with Sylvan Prairie Park to the south, and Sylvania Rec’s Pacesetter Park and Centennial Quarry and Terrace to the north. Fossil Park’s solar powered restroom and access to the QRBT are available year round. The fossil pit is open from Mid April to the end of October. Outdoor Sylvania Community Parks operates Fossil Park in cooperation with Lehigh Hanson Aggregates and the City of Sylvania.

SYLVAN PRAIRIE

8601 Brint Road

Sylvan Prairie Park encompasses 320 acres of reconstructed prairie habitat in western Sylvania Township. The southern leg of the Quarry Ridge Bike Trail circles Sylvan Prairie Park and connects with Fossil Park to the north. The prairie provides a home for a wide variety of wildlife, including a diverse bird and butterfly population. Enjoy the playground, sledding hill and 3.3 miles of paved trail.

OLANDER PARK

6930 Sylvania Avenue

Olander Park includes a 28 acre lake, a 1.1 mile walking path, picnic areas, a swimming beach, boating concessions and four playgrounds. The district’s most popular park, it hosts public programs like the annual Easter Egg Hunt, Trout Derby, Sunset Serenades Summer Concert Series, I Love Olander Day and the Halloween Hike.

SOUTHVIEW OAK SAVANNA

7225 West Sylvania Avenue, accessible via the University Parks Trail

Outdoor Sylvania Community Parks works with the Sylvania School District to manage this intact remnant of a globally rare ecosystem. Home to 25 state endangered or threatened plant species, it’s a community gem. Adjacent to the University Parks Trail a sandy path provides access to the natural area.

WHETSTONE PARK

5430 Rudyard Road

Whetstone Park is a beautiful little neighborhood park in the western part of the Sylvania Community. Enjoy a picnic in its shelter, take the kids to the playground, or stroll around its 0.2 mile, paved walking trail.

WATERBURY WET WOODS

Accessible via Carlingfort Drive

The Waterbury Wet Woods is a tiny remnant of wet woods habitat featuring a substantial spring wildflower population, nestled within a suburban neighborhood. Owned by the City of Toledo, Outdoor Sylvania Community Parks currently manages the property. The site is accessible from Carlingfort Drive and has a minimally maintained path used mostly by neighbors.
