Due to the forecasted extreme heatwave and dangerous heat index levels exceeding 100°F, the swim beach at Lake Olander will be CLOSED for the next two days (Wednesday, July 1st through Friday, July 3rd).

We know the beach is the go-to spot to beat the heat, but these extreme temperatures create a severe, compounding safety risk:

The Public Risk: Prolonged exposure to 100°F+ heat dramatically increases the likelihood of sudden heat exhaustion, cramping, and dehydration, which can lead to rapid distress in the water.

The Lifeguard Risk: If a swimmer overexerts themselves and requires a water rescue, our lifeguards must perform extreme physical exertion in direct, hazardous sunlight. This puts both the victim and the rescue team at a combined, dangerous risk of heat stroke.

While our lifeguards are highly trained, they cannot escape the ambient heat stress while scanning the water. To ensure the safety of our community and our staff, we are pausing beach operations until the extreme heat index subsides.

🌳 What’s Open: Shaded areas of the park trails remain open, but we urge all visitors to limit heavy outdoor activity.

🛶 Reopening: We anticipate reopening the beach on Saturday, July 4th, pending safer weather conditions.

Thank you for your understanding, your support of our staff, and for keeping safety first!
